A fire "department" typically consists of one or more companies, stations and various apparatus. In larger departments there may be many different companies specializing in engine, truck, rescue and other types of work. These companies can be housed in multiple stations and haved many pieces of apparatus or vehicles. Volunteer fire departments usually are housed in one station where members perform the duties several companies and operate one or more pieces of apparatus.
The Summerhill Fire Department has one station and its members most commonly, but not only, perform the work of engine and rescue companies. We operate with two engines, a heavy rescue and a utility vehicle.
