Originally purchased
in 1980, this Century Series American LaFrance pumper was the
department's first piece of custom built diesel-powered fire
apparatus. The large Detroit Diesel motor, with it's
unmistakable characteristic sound, provided the needed power to
handily climb the many hills surrounding the borough. After 19
years of dependable service, the engine was refurbished in 1999.
This re-work included new body, poly-tank, piping, diesel generator,
suspension, wheels, tires and enclosing of the open-rear cab.
This engine still shares first out assignments with Engine 86-1.
